The Stellenbosch City Orchestra (SCO) conducted a performance of Andrew Lloyd Webber: Celebrating 50 years on Broadway at the Laurent, Lourensford Estate, just outside Somerset West on 26 and 27 April 2015. The event provided great entertainment for the audience who enjoyed every moment of the show amidst the magnificent mountains and vineyards.
Earlier this year the newly formed Stellenbosch City Orchestra made its Debut under the baton of Matie alumnus, Paul Zuilenburg at a jam-packed Oude Libertas Amphitheatre in Stellenbosch.
The Stellenbosch City Orchestra is based on the hugely successful model of Paul Zuilenburg’s Bloemfontein City Orchestra where amateur and professional musicians play alongside each other in a full scale Symphony Orchestra. The 50 piece Stellenbosch City Orchestra presented two shows at the Lourensford Wine Estate featuring Paul Loeb van Zuilenburg, the conductor, vocal stars Corneil Muller and Caroline Grace with Nic de Jager, well known Afrikaans actor as narrator.
No strangers to Bloemfontein, Corneil & Caroline had the Boland crowd on their feet with their pitch perfect performance. It truly is a great honour to have these local talents perform all the way in the Western Cape.
During the performance Nic de Jager described the great success that Andrew Lloyd Webber achieved within the musical theatre with several of his musicals performed for more than a decade both in West End and on Broadway. Andrew Lloyd Webber composed 13 musicals, a song cycle, a set of number of honours, including knighthood followed by 7 Tony Awards, 3 Grammy Awards, 4 Ivor Novello Awards, an Academy Award, and a Golden Globe Award. Truly Amazing!
